Riley Coven focuses his practice on Global Transportation Finance, representing clients across the aviation, maritime, and rail industries.
He advises lessees and operating lessors, borrowers and lenders, private and public companies, finance firms, manufacturers, underwriters, and government agencies on transactions involving commercial aircraft, railcars, general equipment, and asset-backed securitizations.
Riley structures and negotiates financing, acquisition, and sale transactions to align with clients’ strategic objectives, optimize capital deployment, and manage risk across domestic and cross-border deals. He delivers clear, actionable guidance that supports clients in executing complex transportation finance transactions efficiently and confidently.
Before joining Vedder, Riley worked at a Texas law firm handling complex transactional matters, including commercial lending, corporate restructurings, mergers and acquisitions, and business formations, bringing broad transactional insight to transportation finance clients.
Experience
- Guided a client through the purchase of thirty aircraft from a US major airline including the initial purchase and subsequent transfers of each aircraft
- Following the purchase of a set of engines, assisted a client with the execution of twenty-four leasing arrangements with various lessees in differing countries
- Counseled a client in the creation and administration of a warehouse financing arrangement in connection with its railcar assets
- Assisted a client in the financing of multiple aircraft and engines out of two differing financing facilities
